Intro to Metanoia Lectures

The Foundational Keys to Study

Understanding God’s word requires us to submit ourselves to three disciplines of study:

  1. Knowledge
  2. Understanding
  3. Wisdom

In regard to these three disciplines, there is a Greek word, – Metanoia. Let’s look at it’s meaning.

The Greek word Metanoia means, changing one’s mind.

Metanoia is not about the pursuit of surface knowledge or knowledge of mere academic interest. Metanoia is a new truth that resonates within you; it changes the way you think, what you do, and in some ways, what you are.

This word is used in the Bible to describe the deep changes that come about in those who become followers of Jesus.

Hence, the “shift of mind” found in a “spiritual rebirth” is the extreme illustration of what all learning is about: Finding and applying new truth!
In psychological theory, metanoia denotes a process of reforming the psyche as a form of healing. This we find in Jesus.

So the first key in the study of God’s word requires these three disciplines:

  1. Knowledge – the gathering of the facts
  2. Understanding – the arranging of these facts.
  3. Wisdom – the proper application of these facts
    Let’s begin our study.
